4200+ miles of highway await. The Appalachian Mountains, the Great Plains, the Rockies and the West Coast all before me. Virginia, Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Washington and Oregon the states I will explore. It is beginning to feel a little bit overwhelming. But tomorrow I embark on a trip that most people would never even consider. Just myself, my bike and my trailer, cruising off into the sunset.
What am I thinking?
Oh well, tomorrow AM I push off, Day 1 of my journey across the country. I will do my best to keep this updated as often as possible with my pictures, stories and experiences from this trip. Wish me luck.

Peter just pulled out of my driveway on this 95 degree day in Virginia. It has been amazing watching him prepare for this trip...especially by strategically keeping his bike in my basement for the last 3 years. Here's to a safe trip and an incredible experience. Pete, you've got enough equipment to set up a command post so we expect updates. Give your fans what they want.
ReplyDeletePeter you picked the hottest day so far this year to embark on the wonderful journey! I wish you a great and safe trip. You are a brave man and I look forward to seeing your updates for the road. We'll keep Sarah calm while you are gone! Have fun and make some new friends along the way! See ya when you get back!
ReplyDeleteGood Luck and God Speed! Don't talk to strangers :)
ReplyDeletegood luck buddy...go get em
ReplyDeleteHi Pete,

You are freakin nutz Forrest.. But I see how this is right up your alley. I love it, go get 'em be safe. Let me know if you are passing through Texas or Oklahoma. All I can say is WOW!!!
ReplyDeleteSo nice to meet you today in Powhatan. I am so excited about your journey - and I just met you this afternoon. Having survived route 711 - you are off to a good start. I shared your story with my family - and they are all eager to hear of your progress. Who knows - maybe, after hearing your story, one of my children will be inspired to take a journey of their own someday. I hope so. Good luck to you - stay safe. Hey - by the way...I saw that you are planning to go through Montana. I hope you get a chance to go through Ennis & Big Sky. I met my husband in Big Sky after at the tail end of his version of the bike across country. Great place. -Bridget
ReplyDeletePete,
ReplyDeleteI know you don't think I'm old enough to talk, but my dad taught me how to type when I was on vacation last week. (And you know kids these days are very good on computers.)
I am very interested in following your trip, as I want to be a cyclist like you when I grow up.
BTW, I over-heard my daddy say he didn't think they made biking shorts that large. (But I think you look very manly in tights.) I have one question...I thought cyclists shave their legs?? Are you going to do this? Are you faster than Lance Armstrong? I like him too, but you are still my favorite. Please post pictures so I can see your new smooth legs.
PS. Drink lots of formula, that always makes me have more energy! (But sometimes it makes me poop green...so watch out)
PSS. I read your commentary about "cruising off into the sunset" I know I'm only a baby, but don't you think it would be smarter to cruise into the sunrise? It might make it easier to see when you are riding your cool bike.
Your favorite 5 mo old (and new neighbor) - Evan
Pete,
ReplyDeleteYour dad told me about your trip at the Binghamton Open. I hope you avoid Binghamton b/c it was cold and rainy...what a surprise! We look forward to your frequent updates, but most of all we wish you a safe journey. This sounds like quite an endeavor but it sounds like you are up to it. Since you always are interested in a good and friendly wager, I thought we(my fellow bloggers)should have a pool to guess your ETA. Based on the past 24 hours and 4000 plus miles to go...I'm guessing end of Sept right now. Maybe when you get to Kansas I'll re-evaluate. Be safe,
Andy
Andy,
ReplyDeleteWhat are the wager-odds for Pete not making out of Virginia?
Lots of encouragement would be good from all friends and family! This is no walk in the park for sure!! I am sure he is happy to know we are all behind him! Thanks for following his blog and his progress!!!
ReplyDelete-Sarah
Thunderstorms, 95 degree heat, technical difficulties---what a way to start!. But we know it will get better now that you've gotten the kinks out. Keep on keepin' on Pete. We love you!
ReplyDeleteLove,
Mom & Dad
Pete,
ReplyDeleteAll jokes aside...you are my hero. We know you are doing great and things are sure to get much better soon! Keep up the great effort...we are behind you.
PS. Please don't quit, my dad won't have anything else to do at work.
PSS. When do we start getting blog updates?
PSSS. Don't you think it would be funny if you grew a beard and wore a smilely face cycling shirt.
